2022 Tundra Event
It seems that the older we get, the less things seem to excite us. Welp, today could not have arrived any faster as we couldn’t wait to see the all new 2022 Toyota Tundra with our own eyes! We were lucky enough to have been invited to this special event by Sacramento’s Maita Toyota and we couldn’t thank them and Toyota USA enough for having us.
The current 2nd generation Tundra has been around since 2007 and had offered a couple refreshes throughout the years. Though still a very capable and highly sought after truck, we couldn’t help but wonder how a modern version of Toyota’s flagship truck would pan out. After 14 years we finally get to see the refresh and it did not disappoint one bit.
When the trucks rolled up to make their first appearance there was no denying that they were indeed Tundras. Although they are completely redesigned, there is still an essence expressed that screamed TUNDRA. There’s a lot of debate on the internet about its looks, but I for one absolutely love the new aesthetics -the massive grill, the swooping lines, and its curves and bulges all just simply work and are extremely fitting for this platform.
I rode with Jason (@3gs_jaayyyy) in his Army Green 2021 TRD Pro Tundra to the Toyota event and I can honestly say the interior of the 2nd gen Tundra is very nice and has everything you could possibly need. Hopping into the new 1794 Edition prototype proved to be a whole new experience; everything from the 14” screen, 12” digital dash, steering wheel and dashboard materials, the wedge buttons (thank you Toyota for not getting rid of physical buttons!), and the soft touch leather just felt almost reminiscent to a luxury Lexus vehicle. The interior took a serious generational leap forward with all its creature comforts and technology that you’d probably never expect to be inside of a Toyota!
Sadly, we weren’t able to actually test drive the trucks to experience exactly how the V6 twin turbo feels and handles, but a little birdie did mention that the driving event should be coming up real soon (YES!). We cannot wait to see how the Tundra will look with aftermarket support from the off-roading industry. I can foresee the new hybrid powetrain paired with all the future forward technology really changing the overland scene, and more importantly, the overall experience for everyone. The new Toyota Tundra is truly a game changer.
