It’s crazy to think that it’s been a solid 10 years since our very first “MEAT N GREET” event in Roseville, CA. For our 7th MNG we planned on bringing the MEAT all the way to Hawaii. Needless to say, Hawaii definitely showed up in full force with a plethora of fine builds.
Here on the mainland, the VIP scene is just not what it used to be. Inspiration and standout builds are few and far between. It seems the scene here is in need of a lifeline, some new and innovative builds to revive the enthusiasm. Yet in Hawaii, it seems to be thriving and continuing to evolve with plenty of builds in the works. Additionally, the JDM RHD scene is also still very much thriving as well out on the islands. Seeing all these awesome cars has sparked some ideas for me to continue building my LS430. And who knows, maybe even possibly ship my Lexus out to Hawaii for a show (ahem WEKFEST wya?).
The last time I was in Hawaii was in 2021 for my wedding. Back then, Covid was still a huge thing in Hawaii and restrictions were still up. The overlanding scene was almost non-existent and I only saw maybe 2 overland builds in the wild. The only Toyota trucks I saw were Hawaii-styled super high lift on 20” wheels and low profile tires, which I’m still fond of seeing. Fast forward 2 years later it’s amazing to see how much has changed. I couldn’t even keep track of how many overland-themed builds were in the wild. It’s crazy to see how well Hawaii has accepted the mainland-prominent 4x4 off-road culture. Throughout those 2 years I’ve also noticed the amount of love PURE gets from Hawaii in general. A huge portion of our online sales and support is actually through Hawaii! I hope that PURE 4x4 has had at least some inspiration to all the homies on the island. I believe MJ Motorsports (@mjmotorsports808) in Hawaii has also been a great inspiration and factor for the overland scene in Hawaii. It was great to see so many of their trucks out at MNG7!
We make a huge effort to try and incorporate the MEAT in “Meat N Greet” at every event. This time around we had food from Legacy Grindz (@legacygrindz), T8steBuds Hawaii (@t8stebuds_hi), and Ghost Kitch3n Hawaii (@ghost_kitch3n). They served up Hawaiian food, sushi tacos, and Laos/Thai food, respectively. All the food was fire and we really wish we could have that on the daily out here in California. I ask myself every day why we can’t have the same food here.
It’s always a vibe in Hawaii. The people, the food, the cars, and the aloha is real out there and always felt. We haven’t done a VIP community event in a while and it was nice to get everyone together again. It was especially interesting to see how the 4x4 and VIP scene would fair together at an event and I have to say it faired well. It’s official that the car scene has fully accepted the truck scene and the two are definitely going hand in hand these days. I love seeing the JDM influence on the trucks as both scenes evolve with each other.
Thank you to Hawaii for really showing out to Meat N Greet 7! Thank you to Richardson (@prolificfab_suspension) and Gabe (@buffin_stuff_detailing) for hosting the meet at their shop! Big shout out to the PURE VIP Hawaii and PURE 4X4 Hawaii gang for always taking care while we’re out there. Shout out to Funkybeat Productions for the DJ tunes all day! And thank you to all that came out! It was nice meeting everyone and getting to know their builds. Our shirts MNG7 sold out in less than an hour! We still have some decals from the meet left that will be added to our store. But if you absolutely need an MNG7 shirt, just shoot me a DM and I’ll try to do a special run to send out for those that attended and missed out. We hope to bring MNG back to Hawaii next year!
